After skating so terribly the night before I wanted to get out and redeem myself. No one was at the park when I showed. I dorked in ways I never have at Boulder park before and it was fun. Like little stalls on the mellow bank, manuals across the pyramid, no complys and nollie bigspins. I would dip around carving a little at times too, did some little ollies over the hips. Got the dorky little wallie off the pyramid qp. Didn’t struggle quite as hard with the front 50 across and down. Didn’t get a b/s flip over the weird hip. Then settled in on a line. Front shove to fakie on a tiny bank up top, halfcab flip on flat, front 50 the bump to ledge, 3 flip to fakie the mellow bank. Didn’t get the 3 flip. Left feeling better about skating.

(pain level 1/10 felt pretty great)
After a long day of work I got to Broomfield after everyone else. Actually Rob was there too, but leaving. We started on the parking block. It was funny. 4 dudes trying slappy crook variations. Garrett and I could do regular ones. Kevin and Sean looked like beginners. It cracked me up. I was the only one that could do slappy front crook. Sean and Kevin’s attempts were really amusing. Then we moved on to the black ledge where I was left looking like the beginner struggling with such basics as front 50. Ugh. Kevin got front crooks first try, but took awhile to get nollie front crook. He rattled off a bunch of tricks the other way. Sean did his tricks with his style which is always a treat. Garrett had some funny falls with impossibles into the bank and some style on the ledge. Front shove back 50 first try, almost to crooks. A bunch of kick 5-0s that were supposed to be 50s. I skated terrible and had no pop. I did almost get a couple nollie tres going 1mph though. Kevin took awhile to get a front 50 kickflip out on the black ledge. Sean tried learning it on the happy ledge. He had a good primo slam and then got it a few tries later. I was trying it on the black ledge too, but going oh so slow and not able to get my foot in the flick position. It was cold when we left. I felt very bad about my skating.

On a snowy day I headed to the Steel Yards garage as it’s the warmest and I love the rough little curb by the wall. I finally remembered my rub brick in the car and made the curb even better. Basically the whole hour and a half I tried two trick lines with a flatground trick and a curb trick. Starting basic with shoves and 50s. Front 50s were incredibly fun as they were going like 8 feet. I got stuck on heelflips though. Never landed one. I probably tried 40 of them. I blame the bigger setup somewhat, but really I had been struggling almost as bad with the smaller setup recently. I skated hard. Those are some of the fastest front 50s I’ve done. I landed on treflip and fakie treflip, but never rode away. A homeless dude appeared in the garage and I hadn’t noticed him walk in and it was just weird all of a sudden looking up and seeing someone. I felt bad for how loud my board was when I bailed. I tried Dave’s challenge, halfcab 50 for awhile. Got pretty close and it feels doable, but never got both trucks on it. Overall it was a fun session even though I hardly landed any flip tricks. At least faster 50s were fun.

I’m writing this several days after the fact and in the middle of the night not being able to sleep. Ugh. Work has been insane and it’s messing with me. So I’m making excuses for this entry not being very complete or entertaining. Anyways, Stubborns Saturday was in effect on a crisp morning that would get pretty warm. The first spot was Red Hawk because Dave and I had some trick ideas. Although we went on to not even really try them. Ha. I got there first and started out on the curb area. The shaded area was still pretty cold. Those ride on grinds are really fun there. I tried to piece together a flatground trick, grind, back 180 up the curb, switch 180, front 50, front board. I might have done that. Kevin was next I think. Or Dave. They both started on the curbs too. Sean showed. He didn’t really mess with the curbs. Then we were mostly down below. Kevin was rattling off lines. Dave ollied up the loading dock and followed it with a solid front 50 back 180 out. Sean skates so fast it was rubbing off on others. Maybe not me so much as I think he could pass me without even pushing while trying lines. But Kevin slammed hard trying to do a fast front 50 and it kind of took him out for the day. He still skated, but his knee was hurting. Kevin and I had some funny tips for each other. After he bailed a back 50 I told him he might want to go slower and use more angle and landed my terrible one. After I bailed a crooks he told me I might want to go faster and use less angle and landed a good one. Ha. I had a lot of accidental front 5-0s and posed kick front boards without ever committing. I was skating so bad I decided to start filming Sean who was doing a line of fakie 50 then fakie back tail 270 shove, but we got the boot.
Off to Rocky Mtn Elem it was. Everyone but Sean was completely wrecked and sore when we go there. I think it was the crazy weather change coming messing with everyone. Or just the old age. Kevin tried to get it going, but he just couldn’t with his knee. Sean ollied the medians so casually and got a cool little clip for the gram. His front tailsides on the ledge were so posted up it inspired me to try and post up more on a more technical trick – noseslide. Dave was shredding the bank to angled curb. He did a crazy nollie shove rock ‘n roll in between some sketchy ollies up. Fuzz showed, but didn’t really skate this spot. The cracks here are so bad. I kept trying for the heck of it. Kickflips up the little curb are really fun there. The noseslide to fakie was fun too, the bigger board is great for noseslides. I didn’t get many flippers. I got a few super slow front 50 that felt like an accomplishment just forcing my legs to ollie that high, but never got the no comply bean plant after.
Then we went to the chocolate chip church. Upon rolling up Fuzz and I were amazed at how much gnarlier it was then we remembered. But after some kickturns and stuff it felt more skateable. I pretty much lost interest right away though and just filmed. Fuzz got the rock ‘n rolls along with a little stubborns line. Sean got a litle gram line and said he wanted to learn ollies to fakie (I don’t believe that he didn’t already have it mastered). Kevin had some painful looking bails, but went in hard on a pivot fakie and just couldn’t quite get it. It was a bummer, but man he tried hard and was limping so bad.
After that was mexican food and margs. Good times.
