Went out to skate a little flat before having a dinner date with Liz. It was really hot out and my street was melted so that wasn’t an option. The curbs at the school are still covered in rocks. There was some day care going on so I couldn’t skate the ledge right in the front. So I went to the nice and shady alley behind the school which wasn’t as full of debris as I thought it would be. I did not skate well. In fact I started to think about going home and getting my smaller setup. Not good. I was bailing everything, even fakie flips. But I hucked a 360 flip and landed on it and made things feel a little better. I was trying switch treflips going up the slight hill and lines going down. I went on to get a line of fakie flip, halfcab flip, hands down 360 flip (meaning hands on the ground). I went home after that. Definitely struggling a little with the Indys. But the smaller wheelbase really does help for 360 flips so I’ll try to stick with them.

Struggling for motivation I drove around in the afternoon looking for something new/different to skate. I ended up here. I skated this spot once a long time ago, but there was a company filling all the parking for awhile making the bank to curb not approachable. I got there first. Took me a bit to get some front pivots, front tail, etc. Then I started hucking front pivot/half smith kickflip out. I got kinda close so I setup Hosercam to film which normally would help me try harder, but I didn’t get close again. Rob came and did back axle stall first try. I kept hucking my trick while Rob was knocking off tricks. Back pivot shove, front tail shove, no comply to tail, shove nose stall. Ripping. Dave showed after awhile. He too got the shove nose stall, and one with a 180 out. Also front axle shove to pivot. I had moved on to nosepicks, but still couldn’t get that either. I ended up just doing a front tail to fakie and then a dorky axle stall ollie down to rock ‘n roll.
We moved on to a nearby area where Josh and Jack did some crazy stuff. Dave and I messed around with it. Dave tried the hippy jump pretty quick. I just rode down a level and that was scary enough for me. Dave went on to get the hippy jump. So crazy. While filming it I stared at some stairs thinking I could back 50 them. I mean I should have been able to, but I couldn’t commit even after rub bricking it and waxing it. It bummed me out a lot. Dave front 50’d it.

On a sunny and warm day I went to meet Rob and some others at Douglas. I arrived first. The ledges out front seemed intimidating so I went to the back looking for some warm up material. At first I wanted to ollie down the big two, but I gave up on that quick. Then I started messing around with the area above. I did a little front board transfer up onto the ledge then ollied the little gap right as Rob was walking up. He took off to the front and I kept messing around for a bit. I did a couple front tail stall from low to high in the same area that was fun, then the line above which took me awhile to commit to the back 180. You can’t see the gap in the video, it’s not big, just kind of weird. Then I went out front with Rob. My legs were feeling pretty good I thought. I was wearing shorts so it was a little weird, but for the most part I thought I was going to skate really well. But them ledges are hard and quickly took their toll. Rob was mostly going for lines to a boardslide to fakie on the longer ledge. Back 180 or no comply up the curb, fakie bigspin or kickflip on flat, or no comply shove. He would get the line, but did keep trying to clean it up. I didn’t really focus much and was kind of all over. I had one tiny crook, some noseslides, but could not front 50 the ledge to save my life. I got on it a few times, but never got it. I had some fun slappys up the angled curb, some kickflips and that was about it. Sean showed up and quickly front 50’d like it was nothing. Both the benches and the ledges. He had a cool line of front 50 the long ledge then nose bonk a bench.
Then we bounced to Safeway which is a little more ideal for the older folks. Riley, Garret, Carleigh and Fuzz joined. Warming up again was not fun even though it was quite warm out. I think the only tricks I got were 50s, front 5-0, slappy noseslides and couldn’t get the kick back 50. I was beat, after awhile I just sat and got sunburnt and filmed people. Carleigh went for noseslides and front tails. Rob rattled off a lot of tricks. Back 50s, front tails, nollie front lip and close to nollie front lip shove and front tail shove. Fuzz did the ‘slappy’ noseslides to get going, tried to put them up into crooks, did some front tails (I think. I mean, it’s Fuzz right, he had to have done some front tails ha ha) and learned fakie front tail 270 out with Sean. Sean added a kickflip out. Riley, Garrett and Sean rattled off some bangers. They can all do 5-0s so good. Add some shoves, 180s, etc. They were ripping.
Then we went to Darin’s ramp. Fuzz went off right away doing most of his tricks in a few runs. Back blunt was tight, the disasters to sugarcane, all of it. I only did some back 50s and a front disaster and mostly just felt too tired to do anything. My board felt really weird too. High off the ground, but small. Hopefully the truck OCD doesn’t get too much worse. Rob had some stylee frontside grinds and back smiths. Carleigh was getting chased by crazed dog. Ha, okay, Ella is sweetheart, but definitely messed with Carleigh jumping on to the ramp when she would skate. She got some back 50s, front disasters/smiths. Brillo was there destroying. Dude kills Darin’s ramp. One footed pivots to fakie, lazy stand up grinds and a bunch more weird ones. Garrett made his tricks look good, took awhile to get the kickflip to fakie. Riley can do anything and pretty much did everything. Man he rips mini ramps.
