skate journal: downtown denver with joe, damon, fuzz and dave (july 20, 2017)

Joe, Damon and I went to Crisis then after some chilling we ended up at Safeway ledge. Warming up was whatever then Joe called out a game of SKATE on the ledge. It ended up being pretty fun. I was bummed on bailing back 50s, but first try front 50 shove, halfcab noseslide, fakie 50 felt good. Joe did a fakie smith to forward. Damon and I got some funny versions where we landed in grind and fell off. But they counted! Joe won the game on a nollie front 50. Then we messed around for awhile. Joe got a front smith. Damon fakie flip front tail. I got switch noseslide 270 out.

Fuzz showed and we were off to denver. Apparently it had rained some and civic was wet. We ended up at the metal grate spot and we skated it like the dorks we are. Well, some of us. Damon was doing fakie ollies in and out. Fuzz, Joe and I were doing ollies in, stalls on the inside curbs, and coming out randomly. It was fun once I was warmed up enough to ollie the little curb. Yeah, it took awhile. Ugh. I ended up doing ollie in, wallie nollie then no comply grab out. The wallie nollie felt great. Joe and Fuzz did a million tricks. Pivots, smith, shove, etc. Fuzz had the hot boneless wallride. Dave had shown. He was doing more ollies on nearby ledges, but the fakie wallride was sick. Joe had is ollie out and my knee didn’t like that. It would spell the end of my night.

Well, after some slappys on a nearby curb/ledge. Damon went off. Front 50, 180 out, shove out. Joe 50d it. Dave slappy crook and almost boardslide to fakie. Fuzz switch noseslide.

We eventually got the boot and ended at this bank to curb with some homeless people. It was a little surreal, but awesome. Joe and Damon skated. The rest of us hung out while they drank and smoked crack. It was crazy. One dude knew a lot about skating.

We hit the Wells Fargo slappy curbs for a bit, well, everyone but fuzz and I. We talked about how we’ve started to understand how people stop skateboarding. We aren’t there yet, but it hurts so much and is getting so much harder. Which is kind of funny because Dave is older and he kept on ripping. Slappy feeble! The last spot was a fun watch. Damon and dave hit the 3 stair to quick drop. Daves ollie then back 180 was amazing.
