skate journal: campus fun and struggles with dave and rob (july 19, 2017)
It was 97 during the day. When I got off work rain was threatening and the temperature was nice. I went to dog park, but didn’t feel like only flat. Then I went to research. Wasn’t really into that either and it had started sprinkling. Finally got a hold of Dave and we decided to meet at the Engineering building. In the 3 minute drive there the rain had cleared up. But we decided to skate there for awhile anyway as it was a good meet up spot for Rob. I started slow, stayed slow, but had fun. I love the variety of this spot. Took a bit, but had a warm up run of nose”slide” to fakie, switch 180 into the second “bank”, kickflip on flat, then back 180 up the little wedge curb. Dave showed. We did stationary kickflips. It was funny. Just a couple 40 somethings doing stationary kickflips. We kind of settled in on lines. I was trying slappy crooks then b/s flip into the second “bank”. Got really close. Dave was trying noseslides, then going uphill for crooks to fakie, then back down for slappy crook on the tall ledge. He came close. It was sick. Rob had shown and left right away telling us to meet him at the slappy ledge when we’re ready. I did a back 50 on the 3 stair then slammed the next 3 and we went to meet up with Rob. The weather was warm, but not raining. Pretty much perfect.
We left to try and find this new waxed curb, but got distracted by some big sets of stairs. Ha. Oh yeah, my hardware was loose on both trucks, my pivot cup and kingpin were loose on my front truck. Every crack I hit caused my trucks to squirl out. It was annoying, I tried not to let it effect me, but since I struggled to ollie up 2 stairs I’m going to use it as an excuse. Anyways. Dave got things going pretty quick with a sick narrow manual next to the handicap rail, ollied the 4, ollied the 3 then front 180’d into the wood construction ramp. So rad. I seriously could not get up the 2. It was so annoying. I would eventually do it, failed at the 4 stair after. Then did ollie up and back 180 off. It was really fun. Rob did no comply up the 2 then beanplant off. Then a stubborns hammer line of back 180 up and no comply shove off. Bolts. We looked for the curb after, but I had to go so I left those dudes. Skating downhill back I was nervous my front hanger would fall off. Luckily it never did. Then I had a fun night hanging with the neighbors.
