skate journal: bikepath spot with dave and matt then a wind tunnel (feb 10, 2017)
Had the day off work. Made sure the kids were occupied and met Dave and Matt at the bikepath ledge/hip spot. Because of knee pain I tried wearing some cupsoles (NB 598), but that ended up just making me worse. Way more sore. Dave and I were there before Matt. I had hoped to at least do a back 50 before Matt, but I didn’t. I was going soooo slow. It was quite depressing. I did manage a tiny backside flip over the “hip” second try at least. Dave was doing good switch noseslides, front shoves over the hip, back 50s or 5-0s up the ledge and solid front 50s. Matt showed up. Dave and I had joked how he had once chance to do a ten foot long back 50. Well it didn’t happen. He would get some, but it took a few tries. Regardless of how rusty Matt is on a board it still indicates the ledge must be hard to skate. Matt taking a few tries was still not enough for me to get a terribly slow back 50. At least I had slappy crooks. Sometimes. Matt would go on to get some good back 50s, a few back tails, and some casual frontside tricks like 5-0 180, front tail fakie. Dave started hucking treflips over the hip. He was committing. Some were close. It was rad. I was trying rock ‘n roll 360s out, but never got it. Then rolled in fakie and did it first try. I filmed the one above a little later after Matt left. Dave unfortunately never landed a treflip. He had some rad lines of back 180 fakie feeble 180 (is this what it’s called dave?), front shove over the hip, back 5-0 or back tail or a combo of both. I hucked double backside flips over the hip (never got close) and 270 kickflips (somewhat close). Then we left to check out the weird ledge off the bank on Pearl. It was super windy at that time. I stood on my board and was quickly going fast enough to be scared. I basically decided not to skate. Dave did some cool fakie ollies and got into slappy 50s easy. That could be a cool spot if the wind wasn’t so bad.
