The temp was warmer, we got close to 8 hours of sleep and we went to this bank spot as our final destination before heading home. Jack and Riley were dead from the night before. Garrett, Hayden, Joe and Eric had the fire though. Garrett filmed a gnarly dump truck and I filmed Hayden get a sick line. I had tried to skate a little before that, but it was just hucking around. I joined Joe and Eric on the steep bank after I filmed. Joe had already rattled off a few tricks and Eric was in the process of rattling off a bunch of new ones for him when I joined. Joe did kickflip to side rock and fakie bigspin. Eric did tricks that I don’t know the names of. They involve sal flips or both feet on the table blunts to fakie in the middle of the bank. I tried a bunch of no comply bigspins. I was the last one skating, I kept getting close, but not landing it. I was stressed as I was the only one skating and PMG (positive mental glen which is the oppopsite – basically self depricating/hating glen). I got a couple, but they were landed really poorly. Oh well. Then we ate at Runza and piled in the car to head home. Good trip, good people, all that. It ruled.

skate journal: more null! york park, filmer glen, the bay amazingness and then watching the big contest (sept 4, 2016 day 248)

Slept good on a road trip what? It ruled. Woke up a little later then we wanted and after being baptized at the grocery store we went to York park. We all started on the mini. As you can see, the boys killed it. They were on fire. I skated ok. Didn’t get to far on my list, but managed to do more then axle stalls. While Eric filmed them rip it I kind of messed around trying to get it going. I don’t remember landing anything so it must not have been so good. Then we filmed for awhile. Hayden and Riley got some bangers then we headed to Lincoln. We went to the Bay for what was supposed to be a short session, BUT THEY WERE PLAYING DINOSAUR JR RADIO!!! Ha ha ha, I was so hyped. Plus, we got to skate it for free and there was only a couple of other people there. It was almost too much for me, I was too excited. Garrett and Hayden were shredding. I didn’t see much of Jack and Riley dipped out pretty quickly too as we were supposed to leave for the contest. But I kept skating. I started with back 50 on the slanted ledge, then back 50 on the long qp (so fun) and then bailed ledge tricks on the long ledge. I did a bunch of crooks on the center ledge and took a long time to do a front 50 (which I shoved out of once I got in it). We met Joe there and he was ripping. Front 50s every try with some twist. 50 shove, 50 to front board, lip to 50, lip to 50 to shove, etc. He was one sweaty stoked mess. After awhile I started trying my current dream trick, nollie tre over a hip. I tried it over and over and amazing tunes were playing. I added a back disaster on the little qp in the background. It was bad, but probably my first one on something other then Wells Fargo or Zuni park. I did not get the nollie tre, but there were a couple that were close. It just felt great to try so hard, have such great music playing and skate with such awesome people. The contest was a blast too. So fun to watch and rad seeing Jack and Riley do so well.

A Null mission! I was super hyped on this. It’s been too long. Jack and I met Hayden and Riley at Garrett’s house and we rolled off to Nebraska. The main purpose was for Riley and Jack to enter a contest they had been invited to. We were going to stay in York with Eric, but when we heard it was raining we stopped in Kearney. We went to the skatepark. It was hilarious. Such a small town scene. At least almost everyone had a skateboard. But there were teenage girls sitting nearby yelling at people saying they want to see a slam. They sucked. There was one young kid trying to prove the park was his by trying every trick that Riley, Garrett or Hayden did. It was quite hilarious. He quickly gave up and started asking what all the tricks were called. For some reason I just kept saying he was doing “Phantom” grinds, jumps, etc. No harm was done, it was just fun. I sucked it up. Those dudes were absolutely destroying. It was fun to watch, I flimed a little, but tried to skate as much as possible because I knew I would be doing a lot of filming. I had some fun on the mini at least, it was perfect. For some reason I kept getting in to sweepers, but couldn’t jump into the ramp. I also took forever to land a boardslide on the smallest bump to bar ever. I kind of blame my smaller setup. Argh. But that would change soon as Hayden snapped his deck so I had no choice but to give him my brand new 8.25 and setup my old 8.38 deck. It’s like 4 years old so it has no pop. We just filmed at that point anyway though. Jack got a couple of bangers and Hayden too. We moved on to York and met Eric at a mostly dark and wet skatepark. It was a mellow session. I did kickflip to fakie and b/s flip on the bank, but that was about it. Hayden ripped it pretty hard, but then we called it a night.

skate journal: rock creek for carleigh’s bday (sept 2, 2016 day 246)

Left work early, took a nap then headed to Rock Creek to help Carleigh celebrate her birthday. It was warm and nice out. Margaret was the first one there and we skated the ramp for a few minutes before Carleigh showed. We skated the ramp for awhile. I skated it alright, but didn’t get too far into the bag. Rob and Jack had shown too. Around then we played a game of SKATE. No surprises, but I was the first one out. I suck lately. My board felt really small too. Carleigh was working on 34 tricks on the ramp then moved to flatground/ledge/rails with us. She did boardslides, noseslides, noseslide shove, shoves, kickflips, a lot. Jack eventually beat Rob with a cab one foot. I tried doing a line of boardslide the flat bar, 360 flip on flat. I might have done that. Jack got front noseslide 270 shove then eventually with a kickflip in. So sick! Rob did halfcab noseslide to fakie so good, maybe halfcab boardslide too. The taller ledge is too tall for me these days. I got front 50 shove and halfcab noseslide going slow on the lower side. I skated flatground a lot and do not remember landing a whole lot. At the end I did land a switch noseslide shove.
