Such a funny clip and very well deserved.
A beautiful Saturday. I had to get a bunch of Null stuff done before I could skate. Then I went and picked up Carless and eventually met Neil and Lazer at Niwot High. Carleigh and I took awhile get going. Actually, she got blinded by the sun and had to chill out. I got a few lines I was happy with. The first one was crooks, kickflip, front 50 shove. Neil and Lazer had shown up by now. The next line I was working on was halfcab noseslide, nollie tre, front board pop out. I managed to get it, but all three tricks were horrid. My next line might be my favorite though. Back 50, heelflip, front 5-0. Neil and Lazer were cruising around too. Neil had some good lines with kickflip, front 50, front lip or front tail. Lazer had some moves too. For awhile we all tried front nosegrinds. Lazer got it. Neil and I got close. I haven’t done that trick on a real ledge ever. We eventually left for the little Longmont park which is so fun.
Neil had puckered out and didn’t really skate. The rest of us seemed pretty motivated though. Lazer busted a bunch of tricks over the hip. The fakie ollie looked terrifying. He also boardslid the square rail and boardslid both curved ledges. Carleigh got 180 nosegrind to forward on the bump to ledge and her first ever no comply 180. Stoked. She also learned front tailslides over the hip. I skated hard and did quite a few things I was hyped on. First thing was a line of tailslide over the hip, b/s flip on the little bank, kickflip fakie on the next one. I also got a sloppy bigflip on the bank. I managed a bad front 50 on the straight out ledge. Neil and I failed to ollie up the big ledge. I tried it in a line with back 50’ing the ledge before it, but failed. I tried a few slow front 5-0 kickflips out and didn’t get close. I did a few manuals off the tall ledge which felt good, I normally set it down before a drop. The last couple things were frontside h/c flips followed by noseslide bails down the curved hubba and a took-way-to-long f/s flip over the mini hip. Super fun day though.
I’ve completed my second week of standing all day at work. It’s not easy and I was tired. After a trip to Meta to sell some boards and then to pick up Carleigh (since she had gotten in a fender bender) we went to Crisis. I have been complaining a lot about my Fushioned Square Two’s and Fuzz had gotten some of the regular ones in and had ordered an extra pair for me. I guess your friends know what’s best for you as they felt great the second I put them on. We were watching the new Transworld video when Max and Sean walked in. Stoked. After another viewing of the video we went to Broomfield park. Carleigh and I were both super tired and she had more reasons to be out of it. Max and Sean were killing it as usual. Max ollied the square rail down to the middle of the double set then back 180’d the second set. In reality, that isn’t possible. Carleigh was mostly just trying no comply 180s as she has never really landed one. She got close. I don’t remember doing much of anything until Sean, Max and I skated the longer banked manny pad. Max did ollie up, 360 flip to switch manual down. Ridiculous. He was also being insanely fun and awesome to everybody. Max rules. At one point Max was like “3 flip now Glen!” and somehow I landed it. Loving the new shoes! He was also doing 360 flips with his hands in his pockets. It was funny. Sean and I did kickflips like that which was weird enough. I took awhile to finally get the ollie up to rock to b/s flip out. At the end of the session I also managed to do a bigflip out. It wasn’t pretty though. So bad in fact that Carleigh made sure not to acknowledge it. Oh well, it was a fun little tired session.
After missing Bright Eyes due to uncontrollable circumstances a week before we decided to spend the $$ and see one of our favorites, Titus Andronicus. After a few poses in the alley this was the best I could come up with. Then we went to dinner.
Liz and I were cheapskates for dinner and shared a meal. We did got all out and get Pabst though.
The first “performer” was Julianna Barwick. She played the worst shit I have ever heard in my life. Literally, the worst “music” humanly possible. It was just her voice, dubbed over and over without words. Just ambient nothing horribleness. Whoever setup the show to have her open for a punk rock band is a moron.
So we wandered around and got a photo op with Mr Titus Andronicus himself, Patrick Stickles! He’s a really nice dude and a nerd! So we love him! We told him he better play loud after that Julianna crap. He said he’d try. Ha.
Titus Andronicus came on and did not disappoint. They played only songs form their latest album The Monitor. It was great.
The crowd up front was a weird one. Punk rock looking dudes with their ears plugged. Pretentious 20 year old hipsters that were annoyed with Titus fans yelling some of the words. It was easily the weirdest billing I’ve witnessed. Titus ruled it though.
The headliner was Okervil River. They were mediocre hipster rock. We left across the street for a drink and then fanned out with the Titus dudes some more. Fun night.
After work, a nap, a nice dinner, some basketball with Ollie and some laundry folding Jake and Carleigh arrived around 8 and we skated flat for awhile. A game of SKATE ensued. I managed to win it. Got heelflip, 3 flip, backside flip, fakie bigger flip and a few more. Carleigh almost learned no comply 180s. We posed some more tricks as we debated a spot. Fuzz had said Broomfield was dry and Carleigh and I had already talked about campus so we went there. We started out here at a little curb then two stair. Jake got the ollie, ollie first. Then Carleigh. Then me. Jake added front 180 up the 2. I tried ollie, kickfip, but didn’t get it. Next up we skated the little ledge that is right next to that. Jake and I got noseslides and Carleigh got wrecked trying to front 50 it. She claims that the ledge is easy to skate, but she’s wrong. It’s dark, got a weird approach, and just plain sketchy. She almost got the 50. I got a crooks pop out on it (would rather grind the whole thing). Next we went to the student center. Jake came super close to ollieing up the 4. I got a line of ollie up the two, back 180 down the 2, then ollie down the 4. Carleigh ate shit ollie’ing down the 4 then rolled off in anger. After a bit we joined her down below in the lit flatground area where she was learning 180 no complies ( I think she got one?). I tried a bunch of treflips and to ollie onto the tall planter and survive the skate stopper. Nope. The one time I got on it my front wheels locked in and I went forward. Doh. I slammed a bunch actually. I tired a bunch of 3 flips and fakie 3 flips. Never got the fakie one. After standing at work so much I don’t get as tired out skating anymore.
Seriously mind blowing part.
These are seriously hilarious.
Had a somewhat busy day at work and was super tired when I got home. Instead of resting I had to unload another 250 boards which took a couple hours then I had to bolt immediately to 303 to sell some of them. I was so tired and barely made it before closing time. After that I met up with the Crisis crew at a ledge for a bit. A couple of the Crisis dudes busted some moves. I kinda posed some hardflips and watched Carleigh stand there and watch her board go into a drainage gutter. It was amazing.
So yeah, we were both already a bit tired, but we headed downtown and had some fun. We started around 17th & Welton and quickly ended up at a tall marble ledge that was absolutely perfect. So perfect it was kinda spooky. Is it a big bust or something? We ended up skating it til we felt like leaving so maybe we got lucky or maybe it’s gonna be a regular spot. I was able to do back noseslide first try then almost every crooks I tried after that. Carleigh pulled some magic out and did a back noseslide yanked up into fakie nosegrind. She didn’t call it in advance, but oh well, it was sick. She also got back nose shove and I got front 50 before getting frustrated wanting to do more.
Next we ended at this metal pole/barricade thing. It’s like a low trash can and I wanted to ollie it soooo bad. I actually almost put it on my list for 40 years, but since it was Denver I decided against it. Carleigh gave a couple goes too, but couldn’t commit. She has the luxury of not knowing how to pose ollies over stuff (I’m seriously jealous) and couldn’t commit. I took awhile to get close and had a couple that were really close. One that I landed on even. Carleigh was stoked for me and yelled loud. It was awesome. I thought I could do it. But between lots of Rockies game pedestrians and me getting tired I didn’t have it anymore. Doh. I’d like to. I did have some good feeling kickflips in between tries as well.
We ended it with a little flatground session. I got quite a few tricks including my favorite which is the fakie bigflip. I know I don’t pop it, but I love the pivot around at the end. Love it. I struggled on treflips and Carleigh got really close to front shove on flat which she’s only done once or twice before.
Maybe even crazier than Carleigh.
Skated flat for awhile in front of the house. It was a super nice night and there was lighting and a storm in the far distance to the south. My legs were sore from standing all day at work again. I got into it after awhile though. I still dislike the Fusions, but I plan on skating them to their death (which might not be so long judging by their destruction already). Kickflips still felt weird and it took awhile to get some other tricks I normally land like fakie bigflips. But in the end I did a couple lines I was hyped on. Fakie bigflip, pop shove, treflip (tre was HORRIBLE). Heelflip then nollie treflip (maybe my best one evs). I also got a few other tricks like fakie flips and halfcab flips. I tried a few hardflips and didn’t get close, but still managed to hit the side of my ankle pretty good. Oh well, it was a fun little session.
