skate journal: Filming with Max then Broomfield (Aug 12, 2010)

Max is the new kid on the Null Wheel team. We started filming a little intro clip. He ripped it. The only stuff I tried while we filmed was a crooks on a metal ledge that I didn’t land. We ended up going to Broomfield for about the last 30 minutes. I didn’t suck as bad as I thought I would, but I didn’t do anything new or surprising. Max did a hardflip manual on the blue pad and I almost got his back with a kickflip manual. I look forward to that park not being so crowded.

Finally had some energy, but not much time. After work I played Barbies with India (meaning I fell asleep while she played) and then football with Ollie. So fun. I used the old “I need to go to the ATM” excuse and skated in the Table Mesa shopping center area for about 40 min. It was a blast. I started out at my eye doctor’s parking lot just going fast and doing some ollies. I got a little run with ollie up the curb past a crack, ollie a grate to manual the sidewalk. Fun. After that I ollied a brick flat gap to parking lot that I’ve never done before. Posed an ollie over the kicker to parking lot gap. If that crack wasn’t before it I would maybe really try it. A couple ollies in/out of the other kicker I was at the long manual pad with the wallrides, but got sidetracked by a “I used to skate back in the day, have you heard of Tony Hawk?” guy and was too tired to skate anymore after that.

Had to make a run to 303. Carleigh came and we were gonna skate downtown. I guess I was still super tired because when it was time to park and skate I just wanted to go home. We attempted to stop at the Lville skatepark, but it was super crowded with teenagers so we blew that and ended up in the worst parking lot ever. Carleigh learned nollie back 180s though and all I did was do a quick up a two stair that was horrible. Sorry Carleigh.

Totally dead from KOTC. Went swimming with the kids then slept a lot.

fuzzThis photo of Fuzz represents how all of us felt Sunday morning.  After a good ol’ cafe breakfast we headed to Northside where surprisingly Fuzz knocked out the boardslide over the mustache in minutes.  I was having the worst time though.  On the way to and from the car I hit rocks in the parking lot and slammed.  Ugh.  The only thing that came out of the day for me was a no comply pole jam which I’ve never done there before.  Yippee.  Brian and Fuzz knocked out trannie tricks, ragdoll tricks, Jack did a sick manual on the mj ledge, etc.  Then we cruised over to the gnar bank and Bernie ollied into it.  So ridiculous.  Standing in the median directing traffic and filming was terrifying.  KOTC was over.  We apparently scored the most points.  Nice.  What a fun time.  The party at MRKT was awesome and seeing all the John Doe photos was awesome.bernieAs usual, go to Caleigh’s blog for tons more photos and awesomeness.

I normally update this site at work, but it’s been way too busy lately. Ugh. Anyways, day 2 of KOTC started at Skellys house, breakfast at the Rainbow, shop time at MRKT and then finally some skating in Cheyenne. First stop was the Cheyenne park where I mostly filmed people do good stuff. It was rad though because everyone handled the park challenges is no time. Here’s a couple of the big ones. Daryl ollie the big 5 and Brian pole jam to fakie.daryl olliebrian polejam fakieIn fact I didn’t really skate much until we got to Johnson Middle School where I skated a ton, but was super bummed on how I was skating. Niel and Jack killed that spot. Fuzz ripped it too. In the end I got a kind of fun run doing a boardslide down the curbslide followed by a kickflip off the brick thing. Ollieing up the brick pad was the hardest thing for me. Ugh, if only I could ollie.glen boardslideglen kickflipAfter that it was a bunch more ollies and drop challenges followed by a good mexican meal then more park skating. I sucked it up once again, but did two tricks I’ve never done before on the little green qpipe. fakie fifty fakie, chink chink. Cool. I had a few ollies over the little ledge and tried to manual the taller pad. At the end I was trying to wallride to cali grind, but didn’t come close. I managed to ollie up the long two with a bad landing, but whatevs, it was fun. Up next was one of the funnest party nights ever.Go to Carleigh’s blog for way more

skate journal: kotc day #1

Oh man, where to begin.  Luckily Carleigh already documented day 1 so I can just cheat off her.  The day started early after the dentist.  I picked up Jack and we went to the dentist 5 stair to try and pound out 5 stair tricks.  We got booted immediately.  Next up the 5 stair snoopy rail where Jack put down a few tricks and John and I wished we could skate stairs first thing in the morning.Next up we were in Loveland.  We first skated the crappy metal park because some points were had for skating the tall flat bar.  I noseslid it, Fuzz boardslid and feebled it.  We skated there for a bit before moving on to the main park where Fuzz, John, Brian, Chris, Daryl pounded out transition tricks and I sucked. On to the Loveland bank rail spot where I once again took forever to land a b/s flip and everyone else ripped it up.  Daryl ollied up over the rail and over a chair.  Ridiculous.  Brian pulling Chris for the 50 point gap was hilarious. We drove around and hit more spots for awhile filming. Basically, just read Caleighs blog to get it all.  She rules. We ended up in Ft Collins for the night and stayed at Skellys.  We had a blast at a late night Northside session.  Fuzz, Daryl, Sean, Chris, Pat, Mike all killed it.  I got a few b/s slash grinds before landing a boardslide on the rocks and a little slash on the rocks that made me happy.  Day 1 was a blast.

skate journal: a bit of flatground before KOTC (Aug 5, 2010)

Posted in Skate Journal on August 9th, 2010 by corpo

Went out front for about 30 minutes and bailed tricks for awhile.  Nothing special went down and I wasn’t that motivated because I was wanting it to be KOTC already.  Then I went in and hung out with the kids.

skate journal: downtown boulder with jack, jason (Aug 4, 2010)

Posted in Skate Journal on August 5th, 2010 by corpo

After a nice nap, dinner and tossing a football around with Ollie, Jason and I headed downtown to skate.  We started at some weird alley spot when Little Jack rolled by and eventually joined us after playing cool guy and cruising right by us.  Not much happened here and we ended up at Wells Fargo where we skated the dinky quarterpipe for awhile.  Jack did some cool ollies in weird spots as well as a bunch of rad pivot shove tricks.  Jason ollied to front d around a corner.  I bailed pivots to fakie and tried fakie feeble and turn all the way around to land it.Jack took off for home and Jason and I went over to the white ledge feeling somewhat warmed up.  After trying some dumb quick ollies we hit the ledge where I failed miserably.  Jason got some good grinds and noseslides.  We started hitting it after the kicker and Jason as usual put down some good ollies and backed them up with long back 50s.  I was unable to snap my ollies and felt bummed on it.  I managed a back 50 eventually then another line with crooks and almost a fast treflip.  I’m finally moving more than 2mph on my treflip attempts. We left of the ‘pop out’ ledge by University Bicycles.  I finally got in the groove here.  Got a real good line for me.  Fakie flip, sw front 180 up the curb, horrible front board pop out, a i-hope-there-are-no-cars-coming kickflip off the curb, then a back 180 up the curb.  I had trouble getting the kickflip up the curb, but back boardslides were going down ok.  I tried another run with treflip, ollie up the curb, front board popout.  I landed a treflip at one point, looked up and almost ran straight into a biker going the wrong way on the bike path.  Awesome.  I thought that would be the only treflip I landed, but I ended up getting quite a few more.  They felt great and I was skating faster than normal.  Jason got a super long front board pop out to high 5 from me and we headed out.On the way back to the car I had a blast.  Got a long manual around a sidewalk corner and was going pretty fast so I didn’t push before getting a back 180 up the next curb.  We hit the new Walnut ledge on the way out and did a couple basics.  The brick section was fun and we ollied the 3 stair.  I got lucky and mannied up the RTD median and ended with a super fun ollie quick ollie over a couple manholes by the car.  Man I wish I didn’t take so long to warm up.
